Spring Flag Football w/Arete Prep

Duration: The season will run 8 weeks of play. 
Day: Saturdays
Start Time: Sessions will be 09:00-10:30AM 
Who Plays: Anyone ages 15-30 with or without intellectual and/or physical disabilities. 
Where: Arete Preparatory Academy (4525 E Baseline Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85234)
Format:  Program divided into live and virtual.  Weekly face to face practice/game sessions accompanied by weekly virtual practice.
Program Fee: $100 (includes uniforms, and covers insurance, facility use, equipment costs, etc).
A multi-participant discount of $20 is automatically applied to registrations for the same season
Registration Deadline: Registration will be limited to 25 athletes due to COVID safety restrictions.

The League will be Co-Ed.    Teams will be constructed of athletes (persons with physical or intellectual disabilities) and partners (non-disabled peers).  Games will be 5 on 5 with at least 3 of the 5 players having a disability.

If you have concerns about your child’s ability to participate, or if you feel like your child would be a good fit but doesn’t meet the age range as described, please let us know. Our goal is to adapt play to allow any athlete to participate in a meaningful way.  

This program is designed to teach players the fundamentals of the game and how to work as a team. Rules will be adapted as needed to accommodate the strengths and limitations of the children on each team and will be fluid.  We will loosely be following the Special Olympics Flag Football Rules throughout the season.

COVID precautions.

 

-COVID PRECAUTIONS–

While we cannot guarantee the safety of participants we will be taking steps to mitigate risk including but not limited to:

-All athletes, partners, coaches, and volunteers who are considered to be a high-risk population or live at home with someone who is considered to be a high-risk population should only attend training sessions virtually.
-All participants must be symptom free for 14 days before attending live practice.
-Temperature Checks and Symptom Screening prior to all practices.  Any participant who is exhibiting or discloses symptoms of illness during the temperature check / symptom screening is not permitted to enter the facility and must be sent home as soon as possible.
-Participants will be kept in small groups of no more than 8 athletes.
-If a participant (athlete, unified partner, coach, volunteer, etc.) or someone living in their home exhibits symptoms of illness, they should NOT attend any practice or activity and should notify their coach Immediately.
-All athletes, partners, coaches, and volunteers must be free from symptoms for at least 14 days and should not have had close contact with anyone who is sick within that 14-day period before group training may begin.
-All coaches & volunteers MUST wear a mask or a mask and face shield at all times.
Hand sanitizing is REQUIRED for all participants (athletes, unified partners, coaches,
volunteers, etc.) at the beginning and end of each practice.
-Equipment will sanitized before and after each practice session.
-Responsible, socially distanced spectators.

What's Included?

Our season runs 8 weeks long.   Week 1 will be a skills assessment day where we will try to pair participants onto teams in which everyone is able to make a meaningful contribution.  Sessions during weeks 2-7 will consist of 45 minutes of skills development, and 45 minutes of playing games.   Week 8 will be the “Grand Finale,” and be all games.

Participants will be supplied with equipment and jerseys needed to play the game.  The jerseys will be yours to keep.  Your registration fee also covers field/facility rental, and insurance.  There are no hidden costs.  Kids just need to wear shoes appropriate for a grass field (sneakers or non-metal cleats).

Sign me up

The cost is set at $100 for your first child.  A sibling discount is in place so that the price for adding the first sibling  receive a $20 discount and so are $80 each. 

If cost is a barrier for your family, please do not hesitate to reach out.  We really want everyone to be able to participate, and scholarships are available.

Athletes should fall in the 15-30 age range at the start of the season.

Financial Aid

Caris Sports Foundation provides financial aid to student-athletes so they can participate in organized recreational and competitive sports.
